Weatherman predicts fresh spell of wet weather in Kashmir for 5-days

Srinagar: The maximum and minimum temperatures have witnessed considerable improvement during the last five days in Kashmir though another fresh spell of wet weather is predicted from tomorrow.

A Met department spokesperson told UNI that weather will remain dry today in Jammu and Kashmir. However, he said a fresh Western Disturbance (WD), which originated from Arabian sea and is entering the region through Afghanistan and Pakistan, will hit the state tomorrow, resulting in rain and snow during the subsequent five days.

The night temperature at world famous ski resort of Gulmarg, about 55 km from here in north Kashmir, witnessed further improvement and settled about 4 degree above normal. Against 1.5 degree recorded yesterday, the night temperature at Gulmarg, where ski slopes are still under several feet of snow, was 4.4 degree.

However, mercury at Leh in Ladakh region witnessed a dip of about 2 degree from yesterday and settled at 0.4 degree.

He said light snow would occur during the next 24 hours in Leh, where maximum and minimum temperatures will be around 14 degree and 1 degree.

Meanwhile, people woke up to yet another pleasant morning due to sunshine in the summer capital, Srinagar, where mercury during the night surged and settled over 3 degree above normal. Against 6.1 degree recorded yesterday, the night temperature in Srinagar was 9.4 degree. Due to above normal temperature, construction work has also been started in the city, where majority roads remained damaged as government has yet to undertake repair work.

Yesterday, the temperature during the day in the summer capital was 9 degree above normal.

However, the spokesperson told UNI that light rain and thundershowers would occur during the next 24 hours in Srinagar, where maximum and minimum temperatures will be around 19 degree and 7 degree, respectively.

The mercury in Qazigund, gateway to Kashmir valley, on Srinagar-Jammu National Highway, also surged and settled at 4.4 degree, against 4 degree recorded yesterday.

Meanwhile, world famous health resort of Pahalgam, about 100 km from here in South Kashmir, witnessed considerable improvement in the night temperature and settled about 3 degree above normal. Against 1 degree recorded yesterday, the night temperature was 4.8 degree.

Another tourist resort of Kokernag and Kupwara in north Kashmir also witnessed improvement in the night temperature. Against 6.2 degree recorded yesterday, the night temperature at Kokernag was 8.2 degree, while the mercury at Kupwara surged and settled at 5.2 degree, against 4.8 degree recorded yesterday.
