2.72 lakh children to be given polio vaccine on Apr 2 in Srinagar, Kulgam
Srinagar: As many as 2.72 lakh children up to the age of five years will be immunized at 1133 vaccination booths under Pulse Polio Immunization (IPPI Phase 2) on April 2 in Srinagar and south Kashmir district of Kulgam.
An official spokesperson here today said that 630 polio booths with 2520 workers have been set up in Srinagar to administer doses to 1,83,861 number of children up to the age of five years.
Meanwhile, Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Srinagar said the district administration has set up polio booths in every part of Srinagar and appealed the parents to get their children immunized on April 2.
Pulse Polio is an immunization campaign established by the Government of India to eradicate poliomyelitis (polio).
The spokesperson said comprehensive strategy and joint action plan by administration and health department have been adopted during this phase of the IPPI programme.
He said as many as 88,765 children up to the age of 5 years will be immunized at 508 vaccination booths to be set up in the district. “2032 workers and 101 supervisors have been appointed for the purpose,” he added.
He said that for the convenience of public, the Health Department has established 12 transit points in five Medical Blocks of the district for this purpose.
He said the Health Department has identified six high risk areas here at D H Pora and Qazigund, including Hallan DH Pora, Bangiward, Nagnard, Hallan Lammer, Kund Guger Basti and Waltengoo Nard.
To effectively monitor the implementation of the Immunization Programme, he said that the Health Department has constituted District & Block Level monitoring squads in the district.
