Srinagar: With the onset of spring, the maximum and minimum temperatures have witnessed major improvement in Kashmir valley, where wet weather is predicted from tomorrow for 48 hours.

However, the border town of Kargil was the only place in the region with a sub-zero night temperature. People in this town shivered after the night temperature settled at minus 2.6 degree.

Meanwhile, Asia’s largest Tulip garden on the foothills of Zabarwan hills with an overview of world famous Dal Lake, besides Badami Bagh and Mughal gardens will be thrown open for general public from April 1.

A Met department spokesperson told UNI that weather will remain dry during the next 24 hours in the state. However, he said rain will occur at few places in the valley, particularly upper reaches, for 48 from tomorrow.

Leh in Ladakh region witnessed a considerable dip in the night temperature though it was still above freezing point. Against 9.1 degree recorded yesterday, the night temperature in Leh was 0.5 degree.

But, the night temperature at world famous ski resort of Gulmarg, about 55 km from here in north Kashmir, surged and settled at 3 degree, against 0.6 degree recorded yesterday. The temperature recorded at the ski resort was 3 degree above normal.

The summer capital, Srinagar witnessed a dip of about 2 degree in the night temperature from yesterday and settled at 8.5 degree, though it still was over 2 notches above normal. People woke up to yet another hot and sunny day in Srinagar.

The mercury at Qazigund, gateway to Kashmir valley, on Srinagar-Jammu national highway, witnessed a dip of about a degree from yesterday and settled at 8.2 degree, which is 3 notches above normal.

Pahalgam, about 100 km from here in south Kashmir, also witnessed a dip in the night temperature though it was still slightly below normal. Against 5.6 degree recorded yesterday, the night temperature at Pahalgam was 2.6 degree.

Another tourist resort of Kokernag and Kupwara in north Kashmir witnessed some improvement in the night temperature. Against 7.3 degree recorded yesterday, the night temperature at Kokernag was 8.2 degree while the mercury surged and settled at 8.3 degree, against 7.4 degree recorded yesterday at Kupwara.
