BJP asks PDP to review public holidays list in JK

Srinagar: BJP has told People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to review public holidays in Jammu and Kashmir, according to Indian Express report.

The list of public holidays includes the birth anniversary of National Conference founder Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah.

As per the report Deputy Chief Minister Nirmal Singh had asked the government to review list of holidays being observed in the state.

“Yes, I have asked for it,” Singh was quoted as saying by Indian Express report.

This comes after PDP was unwilling to declare a holiday on the birth anniversary of the last Dogra autocratic ruler of the state, Maharaja Hari Singh, on September 23.

The state government observes Martyrs’ Day in the memory of 22 Kashmiris killed by the maharaja’s forces in action against an uprising in 1931. The Martyrs’ Day holiday is on July 13.

As per the report Nirmal Singh has written to the chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti in this regard.
