Shutdown in Shopian, deceased militants laid to rest
Srinagar: A complete shutdown was observed in south Kashmir’s Shopian district to mourn the killings of three local militants.
The three militants, Zahid Ahmad, Irfan Ahmad and Asif Ahmad were killed in a gunfight with government forces at Gattipora Kellar on Monday.
Local sources told that Zahid Ahmad Mir, of Ganowpora Shopian who was among three killed in yesterday’s gunfight, was laid to rest amid pro-freedom and anti-India slogans at his ancestral village. Four rounds of funeral were offered by thousands of people for Zahid. Zahid, a militant affiliated with Hizbul Mujahideen was active since July 2015.
Thousands of people also attended the funeral prayers of Irfan Ahmad Ganai at Heff village. Local sources told Kashmir Reader that Irfan was the eleventh militant of the village killed at the hands of forces. He was 24. Irfan was laid to rest amid pro-freedom slogans at his ancestral graveyard. Irfan according to local sources was active since 15 months.
Third militant killed in Keller gunfight, Asif Ahmad Paul of Kathawhalan was also laid to rest after thousands attended his funeral prayers despite being a hilly area and far flung village. Asif was active since two and a half months. He was 20.
