Srinagar, Jan 27 : Authorities have imposed restrictions in many areas in the summer capital, Srinagar, on Sunday as a precautionary measure following strike call by separatists after two civilians were killed in security force firing in Shopian in south Kashmir.
However, Army said firing was opened in self defence after a convoy came under heavy stone pelting by a mob this afternoon at 1500 hrs.
District Magistrate, Srinagar, Dr Syed Abid Rasheed Shah, said restrictions under Section 144 CrPC will be imposed within the territorial jurisdictions of Khanyar, Rainawari, Nowhatta, Safakadal and MR Gunj police stations of the district on Sunday.
“There will also be partial restrictions within the territorial jurisdictions of Maisuma in the civil lines and Kralkhud in the old city police stations of the district,” he said.
He said the restrictions have been imposed as a precautionary measure to avoid any untoward incident.
Two youth were killed and eight others were wounded when security forces allegedly opened fire to disperse demonstrators in Shopian on Saturday.
