Srinagar: The chilly weather conditions continued as the night temperature remained several degree below freezing point in Kashmir valley, where rain and snow is predicted from Sunday.
However, the maximum temperature remained several degree above normal due to sunshine though ice cold winds continued in the valley.
A Met department spokesperson told UNI that weather will remain dry during the next 24 hours in Kashmir. However, he said a fresh Western Disturbance (WD), which originated from Arabian Sea, will hit the state on Sunday. “Rain and snow will occur at isolated places in the valley on Sunday under the influences of the WD. But, rain and snow would occur on Monday at fairly wide places,” he added.
Even though the night temperature at Kargil witnessed an improvement of about 3 degree from Friday, it was still the coldest place at minus 15 degree. However, the neighbouring town of Leh witnessed a dip of 6 degree from Friday in the night temperature, which settled at minus 11.8 degree.
He said skies will be mainly clear during the next 24 hours in Leh, where maximum and minimum temperatures will be around 4 degree and minus 9 degree, respectively.
After witnessing a slight dip in the night temperature, people woke up to a chilly Saturday morning in the summer capital, Srinagar. But as the day progressed, sun came out, resulting in improvement in the maximum temperature though ice cold winds continued. Against minus 4.9 degree recorded on Sunday, the mercury in Srinagar dipped and settled at minus 5.2 degree, 3 degree below normal. The maximum temperature in the summer capital on Friday was 6 degree below normal.
He said skies will be mainly clear to partly cloudy during the next 24 hours in Srinagar, where maximum and minimum temperatures will be around 10 degree and minus 4 degree, respectively.
World famous health resort of Pahalgam, about 100 km from here in south Kashmir, dipped though it was still a degree above normal. Against minus 5.2 degree recorded on Sunday, the night temperature at the health resort was minus 5.8 degree.
The night temperature at world famous ski resort of Gulmarg, about 55 km from her in north Kashmir, settled at minus 8.3 degree, slightly below normal.
The mercury at Qazigund, gateway to the valley, Kupwara in north Kashmir, and tourist resort of Kukernag dipped and settled at minus 4.8 degree, minus 5.2 degree and minus 2.3 degree, respectively.
