Saudi Arabia talking to 10 nations for going nuclear
Munich/Seoul, Feb 19 : Saudi Arabia is looking to transition to nuclear energy in a move to shift domestic energy consumption from oil, according to Foreign Minister Adel al-Jubeir. The world’s largest crude exporter is discussing the plan with “roughly 10 countries or so around the world, and we have not made a decision yet with regards to which path we will take and which country we will be focusing on more,” al-Jubeir told CNBC at the Munich Security Conference. The plan, he said, aimed “to produce energy so that we can save the oil and export it in order to generate revenue. ” Saudi Arabia plans to build 16 nuclear power reactors over the next 20 to 25 years at a cost of more than $80 billion. It has invited US firms to take part in the programme but acceptance from Washington requires a country to sign a peaceful nuclear cooperation pact.
