Bengaluru, Jun 15 :India took the driver’s seat making 474 in 104.5 overs in the first innings against Afghanistan in the historic one-off test match at the stroke of lunch on the second day here on Friday thanks to an aggressive half century by Hardik Pandya (71).
Resuming at 347 for six, overnight batsman Ravichandran Ashwin was first to go caught behind by Zazai off Ahmedzai afterm making 18. But the hosts further consolidated their position thanks to a sustained effort by Pandya who hit 10 fours in his 94 ball innings. This was his third half century. Pandya was the major partner in adding 67 runs in 13 overs for the eighth wicket with Ravindra Jadeja (20).
Jadeja left early when he holed out to Rahamat off Nabi in the 99th over and three balls later Pandya too was dismissed caught by Keeper Zazai at the Indian score of 440. The last man out was Ishant Sharma who made 8. Umesh Yadav who hit two huge sixes and two fours made 26 and remained not out.
Yamin Ahmadzai returned as the most successful bowler for Afghanistan with a figure of 19-7-51-3, while Wafadar and Rashid Khan took two wickets each.
