Srinagar: Clashes between protesters and government forces erupted in Trehgam soon after slain Khalid Ahmad Malik was laid to rest in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district on Thursday.

Khalid Ahmad Malik, son of Abdul Gafar Malik of Bun Pora Trehgam, was killed in army firing last evening. He was laid to rest amid high pitched sloganeering in his ancestral graveyard today.

Soon after his burial, the protesters raised high pitched slogans and clashed with government forces who had imposed strict restrictions in the village.

Government forces used tear smoke shells against the stone pelting protesters triggering clashes which were going on when reports last came in.

An army party had opened fire along the Kupwara-Chowkibal road area last evening after few stones were hurled at them resulting in the killing of Khalid. (Agencies)
