Sericulture department holds plantation drive in Kupwara

Kupwara: The department of Sericulture launched a massive plantation drive alongside road from Badibera to Dever Anderbugh under convergence programme with Rural Development Department from March 21 to Apr 03 2017.

About 1500 Mulberry Saplings were provided by Sericulture department and the labour was provided by the Rural development department. The drive was made successful by the two departments under the guidance of B.D.O Sogam. Muhammad Sultan, Deputy Director Sericulture Kupwara. Mr Fayaz Ahmad Aga and Mr Muhammad Younus Baba, Mr Muhammad Ashraf  Shah. Mr Ab Rashid Wani and other field workers of Sericulture Zone Lolab. The people of the area are highly thankful to the honourable Minister for Rural Development j&k for taking such good steps which would definitely boost the Sericulture Industry in the area. They also are hopeful that such steps will continue in future. As we know that about 21% of  the population of j&k are engaged with the rearing of cocoons for their livelihood.

However the people of the area are requesting to the Honourable Minster that tree guards should have been provided for the protection of said plantation area.
