ECI starts consultations for deferring Anantnag by-polls
Srinagar: The Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), J&K Shantmano Monday started consultations with the political parties over demands to defer the polls in South Kashmir Lok Sabha constituency, sources said.
They said that the CEO has started consultations after Election Commission of India (ECI) directed him to do so.
Earlier in the day PDP candidate for the Anantnag seat, Tasadduq Mufti appealed ECI to postpone the elections scheduled on Wednesday.
Sources privy to the development said that the CEO is in close touch with the political parties to seek their suggestions.
The development came a day after most voters boycotted the central Kashmir by-polls on Sunday.
Eight youth were killed and scores injured at the hands of government forces during the day.
Sources said that keeping in view the mass poll boycott of central Kashmir people the ECI may even reject the polls for the Srinagar seat.
