Wayil residents hold protest against damaged transformer

Ganderbal: Agitated over the failure of the Power Development Department (PDD) to repair the damaged transformer the residents of New colony area of Wayil in central Ganderbal today staged a protest demonstration against the failure of the Power Development Department (PDD) to replace the faulty transformer and blocked the Srinagar-Leh National highway at Wayil for almost an hour.

A 63 Kv transformer presently installed in area is unable to bear the load and gets frequently damaged, they said while demanding high capacity transformer.

The aggrieved residents said that their transformer was damaged around four to five times in last two months and authorities were not installing a new high capacity transformer to resolve the problem forever, they added.

Although, protest now are becoming a routine affair in New colony Wayil as the PDD has failed to repair the damaged transformer timely further adding woes to the people in Wayil of this central district.

In this regard, the residents today staged a protest demonstration against the failure of the Power Development Department (PDD) to replace the damaged transformer of the area despite the dark of more than 10 days .The protesters warned that they will intensify their agitation and come on roads again if the transformer of their area is not replaced within few days.

Meanwhile SHO Ganderbal rushed to spot and pacified the agitation people and after that people disperse peacefully.
