Rain, hailstorm lash Kashmir, maximum temp dips
Srinagar: Kashmir valley, including summer capital, Srinagar, received intermittent rain and hailstorm since yesterday evening, resulting in dip in the day temperature though mercury remained above normal during the night.
A Met department spokesperson told UNI that light rain or thunderstorm will occur at many place during the next 24 hours in Kashmir. However, he said the weather will improve a little bit from yesterday evening though rain would still occur at isolated places in the subsequent 48 hours.
World famous ski resort of Gulmarg, about 55 km from here in north Kashmir, received 4.4 mm of rain since yesterday, resulting in slight dip in the night temperature though it was still above normal. Against 4 degree recorded yesterday, the night temperature at Gulmarg, which was adjudged as best mountain destination in the country during a function in New Delhi, was 3.4 degree.
People woke up to a cloudy and damp weather in Srinagar, which received 15.1 mm of rain since yesterday, resulting in slight dip in night temperature. Against 12.8 degree recorded yesterday, the night temperature in the summer capital was 12.1 degree, which is still 3 notches above normal. Water level in world famous Dal Lake was above normal inundating a number of localities while there was no threat of any flood though water level in river Jehlum and its tributaries has recorded increase due to fresh rain during the past 24 hours.
The night temperature at Qazigund, the gateway to Kashmir valley, on Srinagar-Jammu national highway, which received 22 mm of rain, dipped and settled at 11 degree, against 11.8 degree recorded yesterday.
World famous health resort of Pahalgam, about 100 km from here in south Kashmir, received 4.4 mm of rain overnight, resulting in dip in the night temperature. Against 8.4 degree recorded yesterday, the night temperature at Pahalgam was 8.2 degree.
The mercury at Kupwara in north Kashmir and tourist resort of Kokernag, which also received rain, dipped and settled at 10.1 degree each respectively.
