Rain lashes Valley; more predicted for next 3-days

Srinagar: Chill continued for the second successive day today in Kashmir, where wet weather is predicted during the next three days.

However, the night temperature in Leh and border town of Kargil witnessed some improvement after mercury surged and settled at 6.1 degree and 3.1 degree respectively.

A Met department spokesperson told local news agency that light to moderate rain and thundershowers would occur at many places during the next three days in Kashmir valley under the influence of a Western Disturbance (WD), which is action in the region.

He said there is possibility of rain in Leh, where maximum and minimum temperatures will be around 11 degree and 3 degree, respectively.

World famous ski resort of Gulmarg, about 55 km from here in north Kashmir, was the coldest place in the region after mercury witnessed slight dip and settled at 1 degree, 3 notches below normal.

People woke up to a sunny morning in the summer capital, Srinagar though as the day progressed chill returned in the afternoon due to cloudy skies, coupled with ice cold winds. Against 8.3 degree recorded yesterday in Srinagar, the night temperature was 6.8 degree, which about 3 notches below normal. Yesterday, the maximum temperature recorded was 3 degree below normal in Srinagar.

He said there will be light rain and thundershower during the next 24 hours in Srinagar, where maximum and minimum temperatures will be around 17 degree and 7 degree, respectively.

The night temperature at Qazigund, gateway to Kashmir valley, Kupwara in north Kashmir and tourist resort of Kukernag dipped and settled at 5.2 degree, 5.4 degree and 5.3 degree, respectively.

The mercury at world famous health resort of Pahalgam, about 100 km from here in south Kashmir, dipped about 5 degree from yesterday and settled at 3 degree, which is a degree below normal.
