‘The number of wet days having increased by 14 days’
Srinagar: With clouds hovering over the Kashmir Valley from the last two days, the weatherman has forecast that weather will be pleasant from tomorrow for the coming days.
“The weather will be clear and pleasant from tomorrow. However, in the evening tomorrow there is a possibility of spell of thunder. In the coming days, weather will be pleasant,” Sonum Lotus Director Meteorology told KNS.
The weather in the Valley has been wet in the last two days with cloudy sky and intermittent spell of rainfall. The temperature has not dipped as much, the met department said.
Lotus also said that that in this season it is “difficult” to forecast accurately as weather changes after every two hours.
“Because of the convention (heating of earth) in this season, the weather changes frequently and it is difficult to forecast weather for longer periods. The weather forecast changes after every two hours,” he said.
Though the seasonal weather changes are occur across the Globe, however, Dr. Shakeel Ahmad Romshoo, former HOD department of Earth Sciences University of Kashmir said that the number of wet days in Kashmir has increased by 14 days.
“In Kashmir, we are observing the number of wet weather having increased by 14 days from the last few decades in the season when pleasant weather with warm sunshine would prevail over the Valley,” Dr Romshoo told KNS.
Romshoo said that the weather changes have occurred because of the global warming globally. “But, in Jammu and Kashmir because of rampant pollution, deforestation, encroachment of water bodies and wetlands, conversion of agricultural land has adversely affected the climate. And, hence we are observing such changes in weather,” he said.
However, Lotus said that weather in this season remains as such and people should not worry about it.
“The wet weather prevailing in season is an annual phenomenon. If we remember, last year the weather was similar as of today. So, there is nothing adverse in it. People, especially farmers should not worry about it,” he added. (KNS)
