World Red Cross Day celebrated in Kashmir
Srinagar: Today Indian Red Cross Society J&K State Branch celebrated World Red Cross Day at Srinagar. The theme for World Red Cross Day 2017 was “Less Known Red Cross Stories”. Mr. A.M. Mir, who is the Executive Director of the J&K Voluntary Health and Development Association, presided as Chief Guest on this occasion.
Mr. Mir complimented the State Red Cross Society in rendering valuable aid to the flood affected people in the past year. He said that the humanitarian activities carried out by the IRCS during difficult times are always of high value for the people and the administration.
Mr. Shafi Rather, General Secretary of the State Red Cross Society while speaking on the occasion highlighted the activities and achievements of the Organization during the year 2016. He appealed the youth to join Red Cross Society for welfare of the public at large. Mr. Rather stressed upon the need of establishing Red Cross Unit in educational institutions across the state.
On the sidelines, a blood donation camp was organized by J&K State Branch of Indian Red Cross Society in collaboration with Blood Bank of Lalla Ded Hospital Srinagar, in which almost 50 units of blood were collected.
On the occasion active volunteers and Master Trainers of Red Cross were honoured by the chief guest which include, Mr. Syed Imtiyaz Ahmad and Dr. Itenderpal Singh Bali.
Present among others were, Prof. Nusrat Andrabi, Hony. Secretary, Regional Red Cross Committee, Kashmir, prominent citizens, volunteers and students.
