JAMMU: Government Degree College Thathri today organized a one day Regional Seminar *‘Connect with Nature’* this year’s theme on the occasion of ‘World Environment day’.
Assistant Professor and Department of Environmental Sciences, GDC, Thathri and Organizing Secretary of the Seminar Mr Muzaffar Ahmed presented the welcome address and highlighted in his technical presentation, the socio-environmental implications in the changing of global scenario.
He emphasized upon the importance of imparting environmental education and awareness amongest the students and civil society in particular.
Mrs Mamta introduced the theme of the workshop and apprised the audience about the history and significance of this day.
Dr. Shafqat Hussain Rafiqi, Principal, GDC Thathri and Chief Guest on the occasion in his key note address highlighted the global environmental scenario in terms of global warming, sea level rise, natural and man induced disasters, biodiversity loss and extinctions, etc. He impressed upon the audience to inculcate moral environmentalism and work for the viable societal transformation by adopting the basic rules of life like passion for nature, love for wildlife, energy conservation, efficient resource utilization etc.
Mr. Naresh Kumar, Lecturer Hindi, GDC, Thathri made a sensational appeal to the audience to connect with nature by changing the very materialistic mind setup before its too late.
Beside these a debate and painting competition was organized on the theme, wherein 14 students from different semesters participated. The prizes and certificates were distributed among the winners and participants on the occasion.
Others present on the occasion included Prof. Shrikant, Dr. Zahoor Din, Prof. Surinder Kumar, Dr. Younis Dar, Mr. Amit, Mr. Ayaz, Mr. Rajesh, Mr. Tariq, Mr. Nasir, Mr. Rohit Mr. Praveen, Mr. Sanjeet and Mr. Ramesh, Mr. Anoj Kumar, Assistant Professor, Department of English proposed a vote of thanks in the valedictory session.
