Erratic power supply forces Kangan residents to take to streets
Ganderbal: The protests against the Power Development Department (PDD) seems to have no end in the Ganderbal areas, where as the Kullan Kangan in Central Ganderbal continued in dark during this month of Raadan, the locals today take to streets near High Secondary Kullan, claiming that the area reel under darkness since past ten days.
As per the reports available with Kashmir Age, the inhabitants of Kullan Kangan took to streets today alleging that the department has ignored them at all fronts as their area transformer damaged few days back. Today scores of people here blocked the Srinagar Leh National highway at Kullan area to mark a protest against the department. The protesting residents while chanting anti-PDD slogans, demanding replacement of damaged transformer.
The protesters including men and women had erected a temporary barricade on the roads and were not allowing the commuters as well tourists to move ahead, which also resulted in the massive traffic jam in the area.
The protesters said that they are reeling under darkness from past few days but unfortunately, the department has taken no measures to redress the genuine grievances of inhabitants here. The failure of the department forced them to take streets. “We have been ignored at all fronts. The authorities must not ignore our plights and should install our area transformer at earliest so that we can feel a sigh of relief in this month of Ramadan,” they added.
However, Gund Police after reaching on spot, assured the protestors to redress their demand and dispersed peacefully.
