Prez poll: Kovind in Srinagar to meet Mehbooba

SRINAGAR:  Ruling NDA’s Presidential candidate Ram Nath Kovind is on a day-long visit to Kashmir as part of his campaign to seek support ahead of the election next month.
A BJP spokesperson told UNI that Mr Kovind, the former Bihar Governor, reached this summer capital along with Union ministers Venkaiah Naidu and Dr Jitendra Singh.
He said Mr Kovind will meet Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti, besides MLAs and MPs as part of the electoral campaigning to seek their support for July 17 election.
Ms Mehbooba was expected to be present when Mr Kovind filed his nomination, but had to cancel her trip after DSP Ayub Pandith was lynched to death near Jamia Masjid in downtown Srinagar on intervening night of June 22-23.
The NDA’s Presidential candidate has already met lawmakers from Uttarakhand and UP. (UNI)
