Supporting Kovind is not linked to future tie up with BJP, says TRS MP

NEW DELHI: The Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) will not have any thing to do in the long run with the BJP or with the saffron party-led NDA combine as the decision to support Ram Nath Kovind for Presidential election was considered by the party because of his clean image and his social background.

“It was certainly a conscious decision.
When Prime Minister Narendra Modi called and spoke to TRS leader and Chief Minister K Chandrashekhara Rao, it was decided that we will support the candidature of Mr Kovind due to his image and also because he is a Dalit,” TRS leader and MP Kalvakuntla Kavitha told UNI here.
However, she hastened to add in the same breadth: “It is true Congress and opposition parties have also fielded a Dalit candidate in Meira Kumar now.
But that’s more as a reaction, TRS has already announced its support to Mr Kovind and we have to respect our own decision”. (UNI)
