Amid row over Article 35-A, Mehbooba calls on Dr Farooq

Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti today met president of main opposition National Conference (NC) Dr Farooq Abdullah at his Gupkar residence this evening.

The meeting came at a time when the entire opposition in the Kashmir valley, including Congress, has accused Ms Mehbooba of playing in the hands of RSS and BJP to erode special status of the Jammu and Kashmir.

Dr Abdullah confirmed that Ms Mehbooba had met her at his Gupkar house this evening. However, he did not divulge any more details about the meeting.

Dr Abdullah, after chairing  opposition party meeting here yesterday on the issue of Article 35-A, lashed out at Chief Minister and asked her to step down if she failed to protect the special status of the state.

However, the former chief minister has warned that Kashmir would witness more severe agitation than 2008 Amarnath land row if any change was made in the Article 35 A of the constitution.

Ms Mehbooba has time and again also made it clear that her party PDP, which is in alliance with the BJP in the coalition government, that it will not allow any change in the constitution which guarantees special status to J&K.

The PDP formed an alliance with the BJP in the only muslim majority state in the country despite the fact NC and other Kashmir based opposition parties offered unconditional support to form the government and keep away saffron party.

The NC and other political parties besides traders are also up in arms against the implementation of Goods and Services Tax (GST) in the state alleging that it will eroded the financial independence of the state.
