Official sources said after noticing suspicious movement in Kundalwan forest in Gurez yesterday evening, security forces launched a search operation in the area.

They said contact was established with a group of militants in the woods this morning.

When asked to surrender, they said the militant fired at security forces with automatic weapons.

The security force also retaliated ensuing in an encounter, they said, adding two militants were so far killed in the exchange of fire.

However, defence ministry spokesperson was available to confirm the killings.

A large number of militants are waiting across the LoC in launch pads in Pakistan administered Kashmir (PaK) to sneak into this side before the infiltration routes are closed due to snowfall.

However, troops are already on high alert to foil any such infiltration attempt from PaK. Security forces foiled a number of infiltration attempt and killed large number of militants near the LoC immediately after they sneak into this side.
