Comprising of advocate G N Shaheen, Awami National Conference president Muzaffar Shah, advocate Mir Javaid, Sikh leader Jagmohan Singh Raina, the group PCC chief GA Mir, Independent legislators MY Tarigami, Hakeem Yasin and DNP president GH Mir.
Sources said that the group met Mir at the residence of senior Congress leader Taj Mohiddin in presence of Sham Lal Sharma, PCC vice president from Jammu, and Manjit Singh and discussed supporting Article 35A.
Talking to KNS, G N Shaheeh said that they discussed to have a joint strategy on defending the article “politically and legally”.
“It was decided that all the regions will be mobilised for support of Article 35A and all the legal and political ways will be discussed with the people in these regions,” Shaheen told KNS.
“There is a complete unanimity among all the political leaders in the state for supporting Article 35A,” he said.
Article 35A, whose petition is being heard in the apex court for striking it down, is becoming quite emotive issue in the state, with Hurriyat and mainstream parties having warned of mass agitation should it be abrogated by the court. (KNS)
