Srinagar: Clashes erupted in Handwara after the students of Government Degree College held a protest against the killing of of their mate Shahid Bashir Mir.
Khalid was killed in an alleged fake encounter at the hands of government forces.
Local sources said that forces used tear smoke shells to disperse the protesting students who pelted stones on them.
They also said that at least two girl students were fainted due to tear smoke.
They also alleged that forces thrashed many college teachers and other staff.
The Police have registered a case and started investigating the matter, sources said.
