Srinagar: Chairman Hurriyat Conference (G), Syed Ali Geelani while hailing the report prepared by the Amnesty International India chapter and produced by its Executive Director Akar Patel wherein the quantum of human rights violations at the hands of Indian occupational armed forces is highly alarming and as a matter of grave concern must be an eye opener for India which claims to be a largest democracy of the globe.
The veteran leader added that a total ban on the indiscriminate use of pallet guns and other lethal weapons against the human beings, as in Kashmir demanded by the Amnesty International needs compliance by the men in uniform.
The pro-freedom leader termed it highly regrettable that these lethal weapons are used against the peaceful protests organized by the people raising the slogan for right to self-determination since 1947.
The statement elaborated that the frequent use of heavy weapons and repressive measure in Jammu Kashmir has became the routine matter and people are used to such cruel methods of physical and mental torture. The veteran leader criticized the extension of a judicial remand for further two weeks to prolong the illogical and illegal detention at Tihar Jail for the veteran and a senior Hurriyat Leader Shabir Ahmad Shah and Mohammad Aslam Wani by NIA.
The pro-freedom leader also condemned the NIA action to summon the Bar Association Kashmir President Advocate Mian Abdul Qayoum repeatedly at its Delhi office. The Veteran leader termed the role of NIA as highly politically motivated to victimize respectable people belonging to all walks of life so as to keep them away from the ongoing peaceful people’s movement for achieving the right to self-determination.
The pro-freedom leader praised the steadfastness as shown by a young Hurriyat activist Umar Aadil Dar who is languishing in police station Humhama detained against a fictitious FIR.
The pro-freedom leader appealed the UNO and other International Human Rights Organizations to prevail upon the Indian state authorities to shun the brutal and excessive use of lethal weapons and human rights violations against the peace loving people of Kashmir. Senior pro-freedom leader and Chairman All parties Hurriyat Conference (M) Mirwaiz Umar Farooq Thursday welcomed the Amnesty International report calling for immediate ban on shotguns in Kashmir.
In a tweet, Mirwaiz said that Kashmir welcomed the amnesty report released yesterday in Srinagar.
“Kashmir welcomes amnesty report calling for immediate ban on pellet guns, trial of forces (personnel) in civilian courts and rehabilitation and compensation for victims,” tweeted Mirwaiz.
Pertinently, Amnesty International India while asking India to immediately ban the use of pellet guns has said that deliberate denial of justice happens only in Jammu and Kashmir.
