Education, Research, Teachers skill need immediate updation in Kashmir
Srinagar: Urging the government and private sector to train teachers in latest method of teaching, Dr Qazi S. Azher, Associate Clinical Professor and chairman Scientific Review Committee Michigan State University USA today said that unless Teachers are professionally developed they won’t be able to give any quality output.
Dr Azher was speaking at a day long interactive workshop on STEAM (Science Technology Engg & Math) and NGSS (Next Generation Science Standards). The workshop was organised by Director School Education Kashmir in collaboration with Private Schools Association of Kashmir (PSAK) at GHSS Kothibagh. More than 200 teachers from both private and government schools participated in the event.
Dr Azher compared the US system of education with the state education and highlighted the lacunae which needs to be filled in Kashmir. He expressed concern on the state of research in educational institutes in Jammu and Kashmir. He also offered help and new ideas as to how the education sector can be gradually brought at par with global standards. The audience included Secretary education Er Farooq Shah, DSEK G N Itoo, Chairman PSAK G N Var, Asst Director Academics J&K BOSE besides teachers (K to 12 grades), science coordinators, faculty members of SCERT, and curriculum developers.
The secretary education expressed interest in bringing Dr Azher as special invite for curriculum development in the State. The Secretary said that our aim is to raise the standards of education in the state in every level and in this regard the help from the likes of DR Azher is welcome.
Dr Azhar heads many prominent research institutions in USA and is working with SCERTs of many states in India. He is involved in teaching Brain-Based Education, Science of Learning and Teaching, Hands-On Enquiry-Based Methodology, research-based teaching techniques, and Science of Scientific Investigation.
The interaction was fruitful in providing rich insight to the participants about the education of children in our state.
