Shutdown, protests, gherao to welcome Darbar Move

 

Jammu:  The first day of bi-annual Darbar Move offices scheduled to reopen here on Monday, will be greeted with protests, gherao and shutdown call by the various political parties, traders body and transporters.

Darbar Move offices will reopen here tomorrow with traditional guard of honour by Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti at the Civil Secretariat.

However, Chamber of Federation of Industries have called for day-long shutdown tomorrow over GST Row and is backed by many political and non-political organisations.

J&K Congress, J&K National Panthers Party, Gujjar Body, Team Jammu, Bar Association of Jammu and many others have also called for shutdown against the ‘anti-Jammu’ policies of PDP-BJP led coalition government in the state.

Transporters have also joined the bandh by announcing one-day token strike and ‘chakka jam’ in protest against the failure of the government in addressing their long pending demands.

However, Jammu and Kashmir Police has made elaborate arrangements and taken measures to foil attempts of Secretariat Gherao besides protests on the first day of opening of the Darbar Move offices.

‘’We will handle the situation in a very professional manner,’’ Noor Ul Hassan, Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) Jammu-Kathua Ranger here told UNI.

He said that sufficient and required arrangements were made for smooth functioning of the Darbar Move offices tomorrow and added, ‘’additional companies have also been deployed apart from routine exercise and all measures needed to foil the designs of the protestors, have been taken.’’

‘’The district administration have already imposed Section 144 of CrPC around the Civil Secretariat and anybody violating it, will face the music,’’ said the DIG.

The top cop said that law and order situation was being monitored and assured that everything will take place smoothly.

Meanwhile barricades have been raised at some of the points to prevent protestors from marching towards the Civil Secretariat and all the Station House Officers of respective Police Stations are directed to monitor the situation in their jurisdictions.

However, road adjoining the Civil Secretariat has also been closed for the regular traffic due to security measure and routes of mini bus and routine traffic has also been diverted.
