Braving chill thousands join 454th urs of Hazrat Makhdoom

 

Srinagar: Despite chilly weather, the 454 the Urs of Hazrat Sultan-ul-Aarfeen Sheikh Humza Makhood sahib was on Tuesday celebrated throughout the Kashmir valley with religious fervour and gaiety.

Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti, main opposition National Conference (NC) and separatist, religious and other leaders have greeted people on the occasion.

Braving chill thousands of devotees, including women and children, joined the night-long prayers at the shrine of Hazrat Makhdoom Sahib, also known as Mehboob-ul-Aalam on the hill of Kohi-e-Maraan, where a temple is also located on other side of the hill. There is also Gurwara Chatipadshahi on the foot of the hill.

People from different parts of the valley and outside had arrived at the shrine, where proper arrangements, including water, electricity and medical, had been made by the authorities. A number of organizations besides individuals have also made langar and other arrangements for the devotees.

A number of vendors had put up their stalls selling different eatables items.

Similar night-long prayers were also organised at other shrines associated with Hazrat Makhdoom Sahib, including Tujjar Sharief.

In her message, the Chief Minister said people of Kashmir in particular ought to be grateful to Hazrat Makhdoom Sahib for his contribution in the social, educational and spiritual awakening of the people here.

Ms Mehbooba appealed the devotees attending the Urs to pray wholeheartedly for peace, prosperity and upholding the age old value system in the society.
