Police officer, SPO injured in Zakoora shootout; militant arrested
Srinagar: A Sub-Inspector (SI) of Jammu and Kashmir police was killed and a Special Police Officer (SPO) was injured when militants attacked a naka party in Srinagar outskirts Friday afternoon.
Meanwhile, the wreath laying ceremony of martyred SI Imran Ahmad will be held at District Police Lines (DPL) this evening.
Official sources said that a group of three militants, travelling in a car, was intercepted at Zakoora crossing on Srinagar-Sonamarg road this afternoon. However, the militants opened indiscriminate firing on the naka party resulting in injuries to two police personnel. The injured were rushed to S K Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS) where SI Imran Ahmad succumbed.
However, one of the militants, travelling in the car was overpowered while two others managed to escape from the spot. A massive hunt has been launched by security forces in the area to nab the militants, they said adding additional security forces have been rushed there.
This was the second time a militant was captured alive during encounter. On November 15 a militant, in an injured condition, was arrested during encounter by security forces in south Kashmir district of Kulgam, where a soldier and a militant were killed on Monday evening. Search operation in Kulgam woods was going on. Meanwhile, a wreath laying ceremony of the deceased police officer was held at District police lines Srinagar this evening with senior police officers paying rich tributes to the Martyr.
