SRINAGAR: Panic gripped busy residency road in Srinagar after fire engulfed a shoe shop at the ground floor of building that houses Tameel Irshad newspaper in the upper story.
The shopkeepers, pedestrians tried to open the shop which is very close to the residential quarters cum offices of other media houses also.
The squad from fire and emergency services reached to the spot and started fire fighting operations. The police personnel also reached to the spot.
The staff members of Tameel Irshad and staff of other media houses also took part in the fire fighting operation.
Reports said that the people living and working nearby immidiately shifted their essentials to safer places.
After an joint hectic efforts of mediamen, police and fire emergency officials, the fire was brought under control. It is believed that major damage to the property of shopkeepers and media house was saved due to timely efforts of concern authorities. The cause of fire is yet to be ascertained.
