JK Govt Flayed for debarring muslims to offer Friday prayers

Srinagar, Dec 8 : The Chairman of Hurriyat Conference (M) Mirwaiz Umar Farooq today lambasted the authorities for debarring muslims  by force from offering Friday prayers at Jamia Masjid in the interior city.

“Once again the authoritarian regime has resorted to its SOP (shameful Operating procedure) of imposing restrictions and disallowing muslims by force from offering Friday prayers at Jamia masjid and peacefully expressing their resentment against the US decision on Al Quds”, Mirwaiz tweets.

The Authorities imposed restrictions in the areas falling under three police stations  of Nowhatta, M R Gunj and Safakadal and arrested and detained several pro-freedom leaders last evening.

Mirwaiz was placed under house arrest last evening while Syed Ali Shah Geelani has been under house arrest since 2010.

However, reports said, Muslims took out protest processions at Abi Guzar, Maisuma  in uptown and Hassanabad in interior Srinagar, shortly after Fridayprayers and denounced the US decision to declare  Jerusalem as the capital of Isreal.

There was no report of  clash between the processionists and the government forces from any part of the city, till the filing of this report.

A report from Anantnag district of south kashmir said  clashes between the government forces and protesters took place  at two places in the town but there was no report of any casualty.

Soon after Friday prayers, stone throwing incidents took place  near Acchabal Adda and Ganjiwara in the district.

Scores of youth gathered at Acchabal adda and started throwing stones on the government forces deployed  there. The forces chased away the protesters. However, the protesters later dispersedpeacefully and there was no report of any casualty.

The joint resistance leadership had given a call to people to stage protest afterFriday prayers against the US decision.

Ahead of the planned protest against the US decision, authorities fearing trouble  imposed restrictions in parts of the city and rounded up dozens of pro-freedom leaders and activists.

The JRL comprising Syed Ali Shah Geelani, Mirwaiz Mohammad Umer Farooq and Mohammad Yaseen Malik yesterday called upon people to stage protest demonstrations against the US President Donald Trump’s move to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Isreal.

Heavy contingents of police and paramilitary Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) were deployed in the city and elsewhere to maintain law and order.

Police has arrested or detained dozens of pro-freedom activists including Tehreek-e-Hurriyat (TeH) general secretary Muhammad Ashraf  Sehrai  in his Baghat residence, sources said.

Many Hurriyat Conference (G) activists including Muhammad Yaseen Attari, Syed Imtiyaz Hyder and Mohammad Yousuf Bhat were arrested late last night and lodged at Police Station Budgam, sources said.  (Kashmir Wire)
