Bali Bhagat inaugurates Two Days Workshop organized by ISM

Jammu:Minister for Health & Medical Education Bali Bhagat inaugurated Two days National Workshop on Conservation, Development & Marketing of Medicinal Plants in J&K, at Brigadier Rajinder Singh Auditorium, University of Jammu today. Organized by Directorate of Indian Systems of Medicine, J&K State Medicinal Plants Board and National Medicinal Plants Board.

Bali Bhagat, Hon’ble Minister for Health & Medical Education thanked Government of India especially Ministry of AYUSH for their support and in sanctioning of Government Ayurvedic College and Unani College which is likely to start from next academic session. He emphasized that the vast potential of medicinal plants of J&K be preserved and developed on scientific lines and model nurseries be developed both within the forest and on private land so that the germ plasm/ quality planting material is provided to the farmers who wish to adopt medicinal & aromatic plants as an alternative crop. While elaborating further the herbal wealth of Himalayan region of Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh, referred to the Sanjeevani Booti which was found in Himalaya by Hanuman. Government is putting all its effort for providing of healthcare to the public on the state both through allopathic and AYUSH, 400 posts of Medical Officers have been referred to PSC which includes 50 Ayurvedic, 16 Homeopathic and 39 posts of Unani which will be referred shortly. Further the proposal for establishing National Institute for High Altitude medicinal plants and National Institute for Yoga are under active consideration and will be established soon for which he urged Union Joint Secretary of AYUSH to expedite the same. The proposal for organizing Mega AROGYA conference and exhibition at Jammu is also under active consideration and the dates will be announced once formal approval is received from Ministry of AYUSH. He advised ISM department to conduct these workshops in future. He also proposed to train farmers, growers for cultivation of Medicinal Plants so that the sector is promoted as an industry so that employment and revenue resources are created. Book titled “Medicinal Plants Scenario of J&K” authored by Dr. Abdul Kabir Dar, Secretary Technical Health & Medical Education Department was released on the occasion. The book highlights on threat status and high demand species of medicinal plants of Jammu & Kashmir.

 

Roshan Jaggi, Joint Secretary Ministry of AYUSH, GoI discussed the policies and programmes of Ministry of AYUSH, Government of India for propagation promotion and conservation of Medicinal Plants, which is the basic raw material for manufacturing of AYUSH drugs. He stressed upon the need of having quality raw material for production of quality drugs which ultimately depends upon the availability of Medicinal & Aromatic Plants which are becoming endangered day by day due to their high demand. In order to address this problem, Ministry of AYUSH has established National Medicinal Plants Board so as to provide necessary support to all the stake holders through its various schemes including Mass cultivation and Marketing of Medicinal Plants.  Jaggi assured all possible support from Ministry of AYUSH to the proposals submitted by J&K Government.

 

Dr. Abdul Kabir Dar, Secretary (Technical) Health & Medical Education,while highlighting the current scenario of Medicinal Plants Sector as well as AYUSH sector at national and international level and the potential of future growth in Jammu and Kashmir, stressed upon the strengthening and closecoordinated efforts of all the line departments concerned with Medicinal Plants Sector so as to develop medicinal plants sector as an industry in the State.

O.P Sharma Vidiarthi, Director, Environment Ecology and Remote Sensing also spoke on the occasion and shared his experience and the benefits of tree talk which he has initiated for the generation of mass awareness of medicinal & aromatic plants.  Bramjot, Nodal Officer, State Medicinal Plants Board Punjab also spoke on the occasion.
