Centre ready to include petroleum products under GST: Arun Jaitley

New Delhi, Dec 19: Finance Minister Arun Jaitley on Tuesday said in Rajya Sabha that the Centre was ready to include petroleum products under Goods and Services Tax (GST) but a decision will have to be taken by the GST Councils after taking into account the views of state governments.

Replying to questions on increase in the prices of petrol and diesel to when crude oil prices had dropped, he said the Centre was as concerned as the Opposition but a decision on inclusion of petroleum products under Goods and Services Tax will be taken by the GST Council.

Replying to questions raised by Devender Goud (TRS) and P. Chidambaram (Congress), Mr Jaitley said the GST related Constitutional Amendment Act provides for inclusion of petroleum products but a decision governing it had been left to the GST Council. The Council, which takes decision by 75 per cent majority of member states and union territories, had not taken up the issue yet.
