New Delhi, Dec 19 : The Centre has withdrawn stock holding and turnover limits on sugar with immediate effect following a comfortable stock position.
Sugar production is expected to be around 249 lakh tonnes as against domestic consumption requirement of 250 lakh tonnes, according to the Union Ministry of Food and Consumer Affairs.
With the carryover stock, the total availability is sufficient to meet the estimated internal requirement, the Ministry said.
“As such there will be smooth availability of sugar and prices in the domestic markets are expected to remain stable at reasonable levels,’’ it added.
