Srinagar, Dec 19 : Two militants, including a foreigner, were killed and a soldier was injured in a fierce encounter in south Kashmir’s Shopian district on Tuesday, state police chief S P Vaid said here.
The operation is going on when the reports last came in, Director General of Police (DGP) Vaid said.
Acting on a tip off about the presence of militants, Rashtriya Rifles (RR), Special Operation Group (SOG) of Jammu and Kashmir police and CRPF launched a joint search operation in village Batmuran Shopian in south Kashmir late on Monday night. All exit points were sealed, they said, adding that when the security forces were moving towards a particular area in the village, the militants hiding in a house resorted to indiscriminate firing with automatic weapons.
