Night temperature improves in  Jammu and Kashmir

Srinagar, Dec 20 : Light snowfall in upper reaches and light rains in plains brought some relief to the people of Kashmir and Ladakh regions from severe cold as night temperature registered a dramatic improvement a day before  “Chillai Kalan”, the 40 day long harsh winter is knocking at  the door.

The night temperatures rose across Jammu and Kashmir due to a cloud cover, besides light snowfall in upper reaches and light rains in plains overnight, met office said.

Srinagar, which had recorded a low of minus 3.6 degrees Celsius yesterday,  recorded a vastly improved minimum temperature of 2.3 degrees Celsius today.

 Similarly, Pahalgam which had recorded a low of minus 7 yesterday, recorded a low of 0.1 degree Celsius today .However, night temperature in Gulmarg dipped to minus 5.2 degrees Celsius today against yesterday’s minus 4.6 degrees celsius.

Leh in Ladakh recorded the day’s minimum temperature of minus 10.5 degrees Celsius,  a rise of around three degrees.

The data from Kargil was not available today. The town had recorded a minimum temperature of minus 15.4 degrees Celsius yesterday.

Jammu  recorded 12.2,  Katra (13.3), Batote (8.8), Bannihil (4.6), Bhaderwah( 3.4 )and Udhampur  11 as the minimum temperatures of the day, which was contrary to the temperature recorded in these stations yesterday. (Kashmir Wire)
