BJP supports Army, NC demands arrest of guilty soldiers

Jammu, Jan 29: The Jammu Kashmir Legislative Assembly witnessed confrontation between the legislators of National Conference and Bhartiya Janata Party this afternoon.

While BJP demanded the withdrawal of FIR against Army, the Opposition National Conference on the other hand demanded immediate arrest of army soldiers responsible for the killing of two youth Javed Ahmad Bhat and Suhail Javed Lone in South Kashmir’s Shopian district. One of the injured youth is still critical.

“The government should arrest all the army personnel named in the FIR,” NC leader Ali Muhammad Sagar said while speaking in the Assembly during discussion on Shopian killings.

“I am hopeful that Mehbooba Mufti will announce the arrest of these personnel,” he said.

On the other hand, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) demanded the withdrawal of an FIR lodged against the army men in these killings.

“The government should withdraw the FIR against the Army personnel and lodge a fresh FIR without naming anybody,” BJP’s RS Pathania said while speaking in the Assembly.

He questioned the registration of murder case against the army. “Why were serious charges levelled against the army?” he asked.

The criminal justice system, he said, doesn’t work under pulls and pressures.

Pertinently, Jammu and Kashmir government has ordered a magisterial probe into the incident. Police has filed a murder case against the army. (CNS)
