Day chill intensifies, night temp improves in Kashmir
Srinagar: Chilly weather conditions have intensified owing to overcast conditions in Kashmir valley, where the night temperature improved and settled several degrees above normal.
A Met department spokesperson told UNI that weather will mainly remain dry during the next 24 hours in the state.
The night temperature at Leh dipped about 5 degree from Sunday and settled at minus 7 degree. The neighbouring town of Kargil witnessed an improvement of a degree from Sunday in the night temperature, which settled at minus 7 degree. With this, both the bordering towns of Ladakh were the coldest places in the region.
He said skies will be mainly clear during the next 24 hours in Leh, where maximum and minimum temperatures will be around 2 degree and minus 3 degree, respectively.
After witnessing an improvement of about a degree in the night temperature, people woke upto a chilly Monday morning. However, sun played hide and seek for a brief time in the afternoon though the warmth was absent. Against 3.9 degree recorded on Sunday, the night temperature in Srinagar was 5 degree, which is 4 degree above normal. The maximum temperature recorded on Sunday was a degree above normal.
He said sky will be partly cloudy during the next 24 hours in Srinagar, where maximum and minimum temperatures will be around 13 degree and 4 degree, respectively.
The night temperature at world famous ski resort of Gulmarg, about 55 km from here in north Kashmir, improved about a degree from Sunday and settled at minus 2.6 degree. However, chilly weather conditions intensified during the day in the ski resort owing to cloudy skies coupled with ice cold winds.
World famous health resort of Pahalgam, about 100 km from here in south Kashmir, dipped and settled at minus 1.4 degree, against 0.2 degree recorded on Sunday. The night temperature was still 3 degree above normal. But, the day was chilly due to cloudy skies coupled with ice cold winds in the health resort.
The mercury at Qazigund, gateway to the valley, and tourist resort of Kokernag improved and settled at 5.2 degree and 4 degree, respectively.
