RAMBAN, Apr 13: People staged protest demonstration against the brutally gang-raped and killing of Bakrwal girl Asifa and demand for justice for the victim in Maitra area of district Ramban, here today.

After Friday prayers the protesters blocked the Maitra-Ramban road for more than an hour to demand the justice for the little girl who was found dead a week after she went missing in Hiranagar village of Kathua.

The killing of an eight-year-old girl in Kathua on Friday sparked protests in Ramban district of Jammu and Kashmir.

They also raised slogans against Bar Association Jammu for sheltering the culprit.

Seerat Ul Nabi Ramban president Showkat Mughal said that the agitation was totally against the Bar Association Ramban for sheltering the culprit by giving the band call in Jammu.

He further said that if the culprit will be punished that we will take another way for the Justice for Aasifa.

Similar protests were also held at Batote and Banihal area of the district after Friday prayers.

In Batote, protest demonstration was taken out by the Muslims after the Friday prayers.

The demonstrators took out a peaceful procession through the Batote bazar from Jamia Masjid to the Batote-Doda road chowk (Bhaderwah chowk).

However, some local Hindu and Sikh leaders of different political parties had also joined the procession.

Later all protesters except the Hindu and Sikh leaders assembled at Batote- Doda chowk where some leaders of a particular community delivered speechs condemning the rape and murder of Asifa in Kathua in January.

The protesters raised slogans against the state government and Forest Minister, Lal Singh and demanded the capital punishment for the accused.

At last a two minute silence was made and a prayer for the eternal peace of the Asifa’s soul was also offered under the leadership of the local Imam.

According to sources, police took a serious notice of the presence of some government employees and have kept them on a radar to recommend for a stringent action against them.

About a dozen such employees have been identified and are being recommended to the district administration for their suspension.
