BJP supported Karnataka Bandh evokes poor response
Bengaluru, May 28 : Karnataka Bandh supported by Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to protest against delay in announcement of crop loan waiver by H D Kumaraswamy Government evoked poor response and normal life was not affected in any parts of the state on Monday.
Except for stray incidents when BJP workers indulged in burning tyres on the road and taking out protest marches, normal life was not disturbed anywhere in the State.
State Capital Bengaluru was exempted from Bandh due to elections scheduled for Rajarajeshwari Assembly constituency.
In Mysuru Region the bandh call evoked poor response despite BJP appealing to the farmers and public to voluntarily participate in the bandh.
Most of the Farmers’ and pro-Kannada organisations had not supported the bandh call, citing politics behind it.
BJP Lok Sabha member Pratap Simha, Legislators A Ramadas, I Nagendra and some party workers were taken into custody some party workers were detained by the police when they tried to stage agitation. The owners of cinema halls had decided to suspend the morning shows in the city.
There was no adverse impact of Bandh in Mandya, Chamarajanagara, Hassan and Kodagu districts in old Mysuru region.
In Madikeri, a counter protest by JDS workers led to wordy duel with BJP workers. However, police intervened and brought the situation under control by dispersing them.
In a fierce attack on the coalition government headed by Kumaraswamy, Opposition leader in the Legislative Assembly and BJP State Chief B S Yeddyurappa during the trust vote on May 25 had termed it “unholy” and announced a state-wide bandh for today, if farm loans worth Rs 53,000 crore were not waived immediately as promised.
A Kalaburgi report said the BJP supported bandh failed to evoke response from people of Hyderabad-Karnataka region which include districts like Kalaburagi, Bidar, Raichur, Yadgir and Koppal .
In Kalaburgi, the Bandh start in poor response as school, collage
and most of business establishment remain open. The government buses, auto playing on road as usual and normal life was not affected.
However the BJP party workers has staged a protest marches across the region but situation remained peaceful.
In Yadgir, the bandh response was poor even as BJP workers tried to
forcibly close the shops but police intervened and disbursed the crowd.
In Bidar also the bandh had no effect as the government and private buses, autorickshas plied as usual and schools and colleges remained open.
But the Koppal following protest by BJP workers government bus service was withdrawn for some time in the morning but it resumed later in the day.
In Raichur, the bandh call evoked poor response . All government and private buses operated. In some places BJP workers staged a
protest march.
