Cauvery water row: Kamal Hasan confident of Karnataka releasing water

Bengaluru, June 4 : Film actor turned politician Kamal Hasan on Monday expressed confidence of the Karnataka Government releasing water from river Cauvery to protect the ‘Kuruvai’ crop in Tamil Nadu.
Addressing a joint press conference with Karnataka Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy after appealing for release of water, Mr Hasan said that “I appealed for release of water and it is good to note that after Mr Kumaraswamy took over the before and after Southwest monsoon set in has been very good in Karnataka.”
Stating that he is from a Lawyers family, Mr Hasan said that their advice is to take farmers of both Tamil Nadu and Karnataka into confidence for protecting each others interests. “There will be no room for conflict here if we do this. Court or Tribunal will do their job and I have come here to appeal in the interest of protecting the standing crop and to safeguard the interests of farmers,” he said.
“Talks were fruitful. I just came to appeal for release of water and with good rain in the catchment areas there may not be any difficulty to release water to save the standing crop,” Mr Hasan added.
Replying to a question about demand for not releasing on Rajnikant starrer ‘Kaala’ in Karnataka due to his statements on Cauvery issue, Mr Hasan said that is a different issue and the Film Chamber will deal with it and this meeting has nothing to do with it.
Mr Kumaraswamy said that “we have to find a suitable solution for the Cauvery river water sharing issue. There is necessary to create cordial atmosphere to solve the issue and I am already at it. We have to protect the interests of farmers of both the States and will do my best in this direction.”
