DAK condemns murder of Shujaat Bhukari

Srinagar, June 15: Doctors Association Kashmir (DAK) on
Friday condemned in strong words murder of Shujaat Bhukari
editor-in-chief of Rising Kashmir.
“This senseless act of unspeakable brutality has shaken the entire
nation,” said DAK President Dr Nisar ul Hassan in a communiqué.
The veteran journalist was shot dead yesterday outside his office in
Press Enclave near Lal Chowk area of Srinagar city.
“It was a brutal assault on the freedom of press and an ominous
portent for dissent in democracy,” he said.
DAK President said Shujaat was a fearless and uncompromising
journalist who spoke truth to power.
He was always respected and revered for his brave journalism and
for him, the newspaper was a conduit for speaking truth.

Paying rich tributes to the legend, Dr Nisar said his death is a great
loss and has resulted in an unbridgeable void.
Shujaat was instrumental in establishing and shaping the
journalism in Kashmir.
His contribution in the field of journalism will be remembered for
a long time to come.
He was an inspiration for many young people to choose journalism
as their profession
Calling the death as an irreparable loss, Dr Nisar said we have lost
a gem of a person in the demise of Shujaat.
“A man of impeccable integrity, his commitment to the welfare of
people of Kashmir was commendable,” he said.
Dr Nisar said through his writings, he played a vital role in
strengthening and shaping the society.”
“Shujaat was a true son of the soil. I have lost a friend, but nation
has lost an asset,” he said.
Meanwhile, a delegation of DAK led by its president today visited
the house of deceased at Kreeri Pattan and expressed heartfelt
sympathies with the family and prayed for eternal peace to the
departed soul.
