Kolhapur, June 26 :Three people, including the driver of a school bus, were killed on the spot and 22 students were injured in a collision between school bus and a container at Malephata on the Sangli-Kolhapur highway this morning.
Police said the school bus of Sanjay Ghodavat School was on the way to school at Atigre. Reaching at Kolhapur-Sangli highway, the school driver notice that a container was coming from wrong side, immediately bus driver tried to pierce his bus at the roadside field, but in vain. A container dashed it killing three, including the bus driver on the spot. Two others are from the container.
The deceased are identified as Jaysing Chaugule (bus driver), Suresh Ganpati Khot (44) and Sachin Khiladi both from Sangli district.
Of 22 injured, eight students are girl aged between seven to fourteen years. They were being treated at Aaster Aadhar hospital. A case is registered and further investigation was on, they added.
