Growing liquor consumption, drug abuse taking toll on Kashmir’s future generation: Alama Hami

Calls for a unity among people to defeat anti-Islamic forces trying to divide Muslims

Srinagar, Jun 29: Expressing deep concern over the rising consumption of liquor which is taking a serious toll on the generation next of Kashmir, Karwan-e-Islami patron Alama Ghulam Rasool Hami today said at almost every tourist spot, orchards and even graveyards, youth are using drugs, liquor and even playing cards which is not a good sign at all.
According to a statement issued to KNS, addressing a Friday gathering here today, Alama Hami said that growing drug abuse is consuming Kashmir’s’ future generation as drugs of every king is being consumed by young boys which in no case is a good omen for the Valley, where there are already enormous challenges. He said with the menace growing each passing day, Kashmir’s society is fast losing its sheen and is posing a serious threat and it is high time for the Ulema, elders of localities and parents to ensure youth are counseled and kept away from this dangerous trend. He said though the Ulema of Karwan-e-Islami have already started a mass movement against drug abuse and liquor usage, but it is a collective approach with the participation of one and all.
Alama Hami said that Muslims across the globe including Kashmir are facing tremendous hardships and challenges which is posing a testing time for every Muslim as enemies of Islam are hell bent to create divide and wedge among the Muslims in the name of sects and ideologies. He said that it is high time that Muslims should forge unity in their rows to defeat the designs of anti-Muslim forces who are active not only in Kashmir but across the globe.
Urging people to help their children follow the Quran in true letter and spirit, Alama Hami said that its time to remain glued to the footprints of great saints of Kashmir, who put in their blood and sweat to spread Islam in its pristine form. He said the great teachings Sufi saints of Kashmir will act as a torch bearer for the future generations of Kashmir. (KNS)
