For uploading fake reports, three news portal editors given interim bail till July 7
Srinagar: For uploading fake news and rumours on social media and news portals, three self styled editors of Kashmir were granted interim bail by a local court here till July 7 after police launch manhunt against them.
According to reports, police has registered an FIR against Sajad Ahmad Malik resident of Aloosa, Bandipora editor Kashmir News Bureau and Bilal Bashir Bhat editor of Only Kashmir resident of Srinagar and Wahid Bhat, Press Trust of Kashmir for uploading fake news in the police station Sadder under FIR No. 84 in which Additional Judge Fourth, Srinagar granted interim bail to the accused from June 30 to July 7.
In another case Principal District and Session Judge, Kupwara granted again interim bail to the accused persons till June 30 in the case registered by police station Handwara under FIR No. 141 in which Sajad Ahmad Malik resident of Aloosa, Bandipora editor Kashmir News Bureau and Bilal Bashir Bhat editor of Only Kashmir resident of Srinagar were again booked for uploading fake news.
Meanwhile, in another case registered in Kothibagh police station under FIR No. 36/2016 U/S 420, 409 in which Sajad Ahmad Malik resident of Aloosa, Bandipora editor Kashmir News Bureau and his brother Sameed Malik are involved in forgery and loot of public money, police is in the final phase of submitting challan before the court.
Pertinently, several unregistered and unprofessional persons are running news portals in Kashmir from last couple of years and which has become a tool for them to loot people and bureaucrats.
Earlier police have booked several administrators of whats app groups and facebook pages who are either involved in uploading fake news and rumours.
The police has registered cases against five Twitter handles and filed complaints with service providers against such misleading posts on Facebook and WhatsApp so that necessary action is taken at the earliest, officials have said. The officials said a communication had been sent to the micro-blogging site for providing details of the Twitter handles so that punitive action could be initiated at the earliest as it would help in reining in what they call rumour mongers.
The police has laid special emphasis on monitoring the social networking websites and also various groups created on messaging services like WhatsApp, Telegram and similar tools available on the internet, they said.Police later registered a case against two self-styled chief editors of news portal who recently published news against former Finance Minister which an attempt to gain TRP and not to do ethical journalism.
It is pertinent to mention here that the accused have recieved meager amount in lieu of sharing the doctored audio senior journalist Raja Mohudin and alleged blackmailing attempt on him after which Police registered a case in this regard and investigated the previous cases already stands against them.
