Train service resumes in Kashmir
Srinagar, July 9 : Train service resumed on Monday after remaining suspended for security reasons for two days in the Kashmir valley, where separatists had called strike.
All the trains were resumed in the valley after a fresh advisory was received on Sunday night from police, a senior railway official told UNI.
He said train will chug on Srinagar-Badgam and Baramulla in north Kashmir track.
Similarly, all the trains resumed on Badgam-Srinagar-Anantnag-Qazigund in south Kashmir to Banihal in Jammu region.
The Joint Resistance Leadership (JRL), comprising Syed Ali Shah Geelani, Mirwaiz Moulvi Omar Farooq and Mohammad Yaseen Malik had called strike on Saturday against shifting of Dukhetaran-e-Milat (DeM) chief Asiya Andrabi and her two associates to New Delhi by National Security Agency (NSA) on Friday for their anti-national activities.
The JRL had called for a general strike on the second death anniversary of Hizbul Mujahideen (HM) commander Burhan Wani, who was killed by security forces in an encounter on July 8, 2016 in Anantnag.
‘We are witnessing heavy rush on Monday in the morning hours when people are resuming their business and other activities,’ he said.
‘We are acting on the advice of authorities since it involves the safety and security of passengers besides railway staff,’ he added.
This was the second time train service has been suspended in the valley in the month of July.
In the past, railway suffered heavy damage due to stone pelting and other protests in the valley.
