Biju Janata Dal urges LS Speaker to accept Panda’s resignation
New Delhi, July 10 : The Biju Janata Dal (BJD) on Tuesday urged the Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan to accept resignation of party MP Baijayant Panda, who has lately quit the party and also tendered letter of resignation as the lawmaker.
“In law he stands disqualified as a Lok Sabha MP but now that he has resigned on his own accord, the proceedings of his disqualification under the 10th Schedule need not be initiated by our party,” leader of the BJD Parliamentary party B Mahtab wrote in his letter to the Speaker Ms Mahajan.
Mr Mahtab also said the Kendrapara MP Baijayant Panda – also often called Jay Panda – has been “consistently engaging” in anti-party activities but now that he he quit the party in a “voluntary” move, his resignation may be accepted.
Mr Panda recently quit the Naveen Patnaik Biju Janata Dal citing various reasons including that he was being ignored by the party leadership.
