NDA family is expanding, says PM Modi
New Delhi, July 18 : Notwithstanding continuous efforts being made by opposition parties to unite against the BJP-led alliance, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has said that on the contrary – “our (NDA) family is expanding”.
In recent months, especially since March 2018, BJP has already lost two allies PDP in Jammu and Kashmir and
TDP of N Chandrababu Naidu in Andhra Pradesh.
Mr Modi, however, pointed out that NDA was in power in 21 states across the country.
In a meeting with key NDA leaders and Members of Parliament here on Tuesday, the Prime Minister also urged
MPs of the ruling combine that they should attend the session regularly and “expose” the opposition’s lies.
Sources in the ruling alliance said several MPs maintained that there would be cracks in the opposition “easily”
as there were inherent contradictions among them.
Some MPs were ‘satisfied’ that BJP’s move to project Akali Dal lawmaker Naresh Gujral for deputy chairman’s post in the Rajya Sabha has already created a division in the opposition camp.
A few Members said opposition camp would further ‘crack up’ if there is a debate on Women’s Reservation Bill
as number of parties and MPs were opposed to the bill in the present form saying the move to reserve seats
for women in elected bodies would be actually depriving women from backward and underprivileged groups.
Congress President Rahul Gandhi has raked up the Women Quota bill by dashing off a letter to Prime Minster and said the draft law passed in Rajya Sabha in 2010 ‘has been stalled in the Lok Sabha for over eight years on one pretext or the other’.
‘I write to you to request your support to ensure the passage of the Women’s Reservation Bill in the upcoming monsoon session of parliament,” Mr Gandhi wrote.
Union Law Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad has responded to Mr Gandhi’s letter and wrote to him saying,
‘As part of the ‘new deal’, we should approve, in both Houses of Parliament, the Women Reservation Bill, the law prohibiting Triple Talaq and imposing penal consequences on those who violate the law, and the law prohibiting Nikah Halala”.
In the meeting of NDA lawmakers, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Ananth Kumar later said a resolution was passed lauding the Prime Minister for the government’s decision to hike the minimum support price given to farmers.
