Ban on TV channels questionable: Mehbooba
Srinagar: Former chief minister of state and PDP president, Mehbooba
Mufti on Sunday questioned the ban on more than 30 cable TV
channels in Jammu and Kashmir by the governor saying that the
authorities should instead identify biased channels that are peddling a
false narrative.
Mehbooba while taking to her twitter account said that the ban
imposed on the TV channels that are mostly religious in nature on the
pretext of threatening peace in Jammu and Kashmir was questionable.
She said that the government should instead identify those channels
that are peddling a false narrative with a sole motive of inciting
tensions and are polarizing the country.
“Recent ban imposed on transmission of over 30 TV channels on
account of threatening peace in J&K is questionable. Instead, the
authorities should identify biased channels peddling a false narrative
with the sole motive of inciting tensions & polarising the country.” She
wrote.
Earlier on 18 July the Governor’s administration in Jammu and Kashmir
banned the telecast of at least 30 Pakistani and Islamic channels in the
Valley for ‘maintaining peace and tranquility’ in the region”.
Most of the banned channels are religious in nature and include the
likes of Peace TV, Hadi TV and ARY etc.
Ever since the ban has been imposed in the state various quarters
including Kashmir Inc have condemned the ban.
